There’s big news in the off-season!
Oval Motorsports owner John Soares has announced that both Antioch and Merced Speedways would see the modified and sport modified divisions sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) in the 2013 season.
It was Soares and his dad who brought IMCA modified racing to California for the first time in the 1980s.
“Awarding of IMCA points allow our drivers to compete for the state, regional and national championships,” Soares explained.
Racers at Antioch Speedway will be given the 2013 season to bring their cars into compliance with IMCA rules.
At Merced Speedway, Soares has appointed Doug Williams as the general manager. The 1982 NASCAR Western Champion will bring in a new officiating crew. Wiliams hopes to return Merced Speedway to the status it had in the 70’s and 80’s, when there were so many cars that “B” and “C” main events had to be run on a regular basis.
Merced Speedway will see racing on Saturday nights in 2013, and Williams is working to coordinate the track’s schedule with IMCA sanctioned King’s Speedway in Hanford.
Soares is also hoping to expand the Delta Series, which he began at Antioch and Merced Speedways last season. Other area tracks have expressed interest in hosting the series of big events for the modified and sport modified divisions.
Meetings between Soares and Tony Nocetti, promoter of the new Stockton 99 Dirt Track, have resulted in the tentative scheduling of Delta Series events at the new half-mile facility.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars will appear twice at the Antioch Speedway with the first show of the season on Friday, April 5. Tickets are on sale now: World of Outlaws Ticketforce
Plans are also underway to bring Late Model stock car action to Antioch Speedway in the 2013 season.
Scheduling alignment is underway at the present time. Rules and divisions included in the line-up of each track will be announced soon.
Be sure to attend the Antioch and Merced Speedway banquets. Champions will be honored and awards will be presented at both tracks, and details of the upcoming season will be announced. Tri-tip steak and Chicken is on the menu for Antioch Speedway on January 5 and Merced Speedway on January 12. The ticket deadline is rapidly approaching.
