AWARDS BANQUETS FOR ANTIOCH AND MERCED SPEEDWAYS ANNOUNCED

Oval Motorsports will honor its 2012 champions and celebrate the 2012 season at Antioch and Merced Speedways with two awards banquets in January.

Antioch Speedwaywill toast and award its drivers at the Contra Costa Fairgrounds hall on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. Troy Foulger, the 22-year-old standout driver from Martinez, will celebrate a hat trick – grabbing his third championship in the Modified Division.

The Delta Series drew the best of the California modifieds to Antioch and Merced Speedways.

Celebrating two championships in one season will be veteran Super Stock driver Larry Damitz, who is the only driver to top his division at both Oval Motorsports tracks. Damitz is a living legend – racing and winning on California ovals since 1952.

Sherriff Gene Haney caught everyone in the Super Hobby Stock division. Women racers Sarah Leslie in the “Four-Banger” division and Melissa Myers-Hanson schooled the boys to win their classes.

Phil Indihar goes to the record books as the first champion of the speedway’s new Sport Modified division. Greg Williams is Mini-Trux champ, as is Nick Davis in Dwarf Cars and DJ Johnson in the Wingless Sprint Cars.

At Merced Speedway, the celebration will be on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Merced County Fair hall. Bill Egleston will be honored as champion of the Modified Division.

Andy Welch will reign champion of the new Sport Modified division. In the “Four Banger” division, baseball player Alex Odishoo slides home with the championship.

Graduate from the “Four Bangers”, David Coleman was top of the class in his freshman year driving in the Hobby Stock division. Mike Hausmann showed his son Shane who is boss as he grabbed the Valley Sportsman title after a season long family battle.

Chowchilla High School student Christian Hickman aced his driving test, as he drove the best line to the head of the class in Wingless Sprint Cars.

Each banquet will begin with a 5 p.m. “Happy Hour”, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Awards will be announced after the dinner. Tickets are $40 per person for each banquet.
