Bobby Hogge IV swept the Delta Series II modified main events at Antioch and Merced Speedways on Oct. 6 and 7, bringing a thrilling conclusion to the 2012 racing season.
Hogge IV waged a legendary battle with Randy McDaniel at Antioch Speedway, the two dueling, side-by-side, lap after lap in what proved to be one of the most memorable nights of racing at the Delta 3/8-mile high banked oval.
The top five cars were all in the hunt – Kellen Chadwick pressured Hogge and McDaniel right to the finish, while Michael Paul turned in one of his most impressive efforts of the season in bringing home fourth. Champ Troy Foulger was running strong as he brought home fifth.
A full field of 20 modifieds started the main event, and promoter John Soares said the Delta Series has strengthened the stock car divisions at the track. He said he will expand and strengthen the series in the 2013 season.
The Antioch hoby stock main saw Jim Freethy sweep the two Delta Series events for his as he waged battle with Cole Oreta in a closely contended race. Mike Corsaro won the Dwarf Car main event.
Sunday at sister track Merced, Hogge found Antioch champ Troy Foulger the challenger as they finished one-two at the drop of the checkered. Local drivers Dereck Colvin, Vance Beltran, and Karl Rose completed the top five.
Ryan Larimer, who graduated to the SportMod division at Merced Speedway this season brought home the win, with Shawn Bryant and Andy Welch making it a home-town top three. Keith Brown, Jr. of Pittsburg was fourth, with Gary Hildebrand finishing fifth.
Bruce “Bubba” Nelson topped Mike Stockton, Roy Stephens, Michael Shearer and Chris Brown in the Hobby Stock main event at Merced.
Racing will continue in the spring at both Oval Motorsports sanctioned speedways. The Delta Series will bring special events to the traks on a regular basis.
